Synopsis:
What links Arthur J. Balfour, the British Politician born in 1848 on a sumptuous family estate in East Lothian (Scotland), and Fatima, a young Palestinian woman, born in 1971 in a refugee camp in Lebanon and now seeking asylum in Glasgow? From the beautiful farming landscape of East Lothian to the narrow alleys ways of a refugee camp in Lebanon, "Arthur Balfour and Me" is a visual and emotional journey between history and present time; an intimate story showing how the actions taken by a Scottish politician at the beginning of the twentieth century continue to affect the life of a young woman from the middle East. Arthur J. Balfour was the Great Britain Foreign Secretary in 1917, when he signed the "Balfour Declaration", a letter addressed to Lord Rothschild, a leader of the British Jewish community, which made public the British support of a Jewish homeland in Palestine. The letter represents the first political recognition of Zionist aims by a Great Power, a significant step in the series of events that would led to the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948.
