Synopsis:
Family Constellation, a therapeutic method devised in Germany, is experiencing a surge in popularity. In practice it attempts "to reveal a previously unrecognized systemic dynamic spanning multiple generations in a given family and to resolve the harmful effects of that dynamic by encouraging the subject to accept the factual reality of the past". Depression and burnout have become common and endemic mental disorders. Even the average citizen faces mental health issues: pressure to perform, marital crisis, stress and rivalry. Round-the-clock availability. Forever appeasing everyone's needs at home and at work. An entire society appears to be mentally exhausted.
On average 30 percent of Germans say they feel they no longer meet the demands of daily life. The essential thesis of the 'family constellation' is that many of the problems that adults don't understand lie not in the present, but are deeply buried in their family history. This method of therapy, which reveals how one is related to individual family members, is purportedly a way of understanding and solving
