Synopsis:
“The Man Behind Sy’s Fund†is a documentary about Silas "Sy" River Bennett, who was diagnosed with late stage cancer in October of 2007 and passed away less than 8 months later at the age of 29. Sy fought his cancer with courage, hope, humor, and a fierce determination. Despite the challenges he faced, Sy continued to move forward with dreams and ambitions that were important to him. He planned, among other things, to finish his degree in journalism, which he had been pursuing before his cancer diagnosis. With his electric intellect and creative mind, journalism was not only a career path, but a passion. And although he was too sick to return to class, Silas continued his journalistic work; first bravely documenting his life on video, and then turning to photojournalism shortly thereafter. This documentary includes footage taken by Silas when he was first diagnosed, as well as memories of others who were touched by the way in which Silas lived life as he fought cancer. Sy's Fund was established in memory of Silas and as a way of taking this courageous young man’s generosity forward; we provide funding for meaningful gifts and integrative therapies for young adults ages 18 through 39 with cancer or serious medical issues related to their cancer.
