Synopsis:
"Near a low foothill, / At Heaven’s doorsill…." This is the beginning of the best known Romanian popular poem, "Mioritza" ("The Little Ewe"). Situated in Europe, Romania is blessed with beautiful landscapes. We will follow a group of Romanian shepherds in their trip up to the mountains. For us, it will be a trip; for them, this is a custom, from old times. The shepherd’s trip up to the mountainous pastures is thousands of years old. It begins in April and ends in October. Transhumance is the name of this trip, the seasonal movement of flocks between mountainous and lowland pastures. In Romania, the practice continues with perhaps 10-15% of the national sheep flocks.
