Kelly was born a girl in a body that didn't belong to her. Kelly is a transsexual, but she's massive and strong. She's only 22, but her life has been very tough up until now, and while she's waiting for the first surgery of sex redefinition in the Brazilian state of Paraiba, she shares with the camera a few secrets of survival while sustaining a good mood and hope amidst so many problems. The documentary "Kelly Alves, Portrait of a Transsexual,” is an intimate portrait, in which the particular is linked to the general, being considered, actually, more than a peculiar kind of bias, but bias in general. That is due to Kelly’s path of life, as she was born into a poor family of illiterate farmers, amidst many rude brothers (some of them have criminal records) in a farm close to a very small rural town called Puxinana, nearby Campina Grande, a medium city, both rural and technological, the main urban center of the interior of northeastern Brazil. The main bias, for Kelly, is hidden inside herself and amidst the chain of events that determine her fate a portion of choice exists, and the first one should be self-acceptance, self-esteem, and self-inclusion in the social world. Best medium length film - 6th Latin America Human Rights Film Festival (6a Mostra de Cinema e Direitos Humanos na América Latina)
