World War I is remembered as Europe’s bloody war. But it wasn’t just the Europeans who died fighting. In October 1914, 1,60,000 Indian men arrived in France to fight for the allies. And this was just the beginning. They were greeted not only with loud cheers but great curiosity, their turbans, food, and language alien to the Europeans.
