Synopsis:
In the case of honor killings, when couples face the risk of death for crossing boundaries of caste or religion, it is the community or the family that is seen as the oppressor, and against whom the state is meant to intervene. But in Lucknow, in the case of Akhtar and Annapurnima, another aspect of the chilling reality surfaces, where the state, police, and lower judiciary are far from being the protectors and can be part of the problem.
