Just before the UP elections of 2012, a fierce contest arose for the Ansari weavers vote of the Varanasi South constituency. A BJP seat won a record 6 times by a Banarasi of Bengali origin, Shyam Deo Roy Chaudhary or Dada, is known for his simplicity. But for this election, delimitation changed the shape of the constituency and doubled the Muslim population; A cause for unprecedented political churning and great elation for the congress, eager to convert their weaver packages into votes.
