The mines of the dirtiest electricity production company in Europe are being developed in an area of 150,000 acres in western Macedonia. The Public Power Corporation (PPC) uses “our national fuel†in order to supply the power stations and has requested the delivery of 60,000 more acres in order to provide electricity for us and profit to the corporation.
Until now, more than 3,000 people have been forced to leave their homes and there are 10,000 people in the line, while there is an unknown number who died or have become sick due to heavy air pollution. For all these years, a total epidemiological study has been avoided.
According to PPC, there is no other solution in order for the Greek economy to be supplied with electricity, and they insist that they operate for the common good according to national and European rules. In addition, PPC claims that they must continue supplying Greeks with electricity and be helpful to their development and prosperity.
