Looking After Our Country| 4mins
Director: Mark Pearce | Producer: Mark Pearce
Focus Years: 2012 | Country: Australia
Synopsis:
One man shares the wisdom of the world's oldest culture to save a pristine wilderness.
Albert Wiggan, a young Indigenous leader and family man, speaks out about the impending plans to build an enormous gas complex in the heart of one of the world’s last great wilderness areas, known as the Kimberley.
Proposed by the Western Australian Government and a consortium of multinational corporate giants, the development will not only destroy the untouched coastline, but also heritage trails, sacred sites, songlines and indeed the Aboriginal way of life that still exists today in this pristine place; Albert’s home.
Blending blue-chip with ob-doc the story captures Albert and his family in the natural beauty of outback coastal Australia and offers an emotive insight about the urgent need to protect the Kimberley.
