Synopsis:
"If the price of rice goes up, we cannot increase the price for our customers," says a food vendor who sells rice in Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar.Â
Rice is the staple food in Madagascar, but political instability in the country and a rise in global food prices has put a strain on many Malagasy families. The price of rice has doubled in the past two years, forcing many people to reduce the amount of rice they consume.
