Mongolia: Mining Challenges A Civilization| 39mins

In the last decade, the sudden development of Mongolia's enormous mineral resources has made the country one of the richest in Asia. Huge investments are pouring in and creating great pressures on this land of less than 3 million people in a territory the size of Alaska. For centuries it was a beautiful land largely occupied by nomads; now great gaps in wealth are developing, the environment is being polluted and Mongolia finds itself fearful of its huge neighbor to the South, China. But China is also its biggest market, causing much controversy. The potential for great wealth is balanced by a genuine fear of huge economic dislocations. This film explores the promises and problems faced by the Mongolian people as they race into the modern world.
