Director: Gede Sugiarta | Producer: IDEP Foundation
Focus Years: 2009 | Country: Indonesia
Synopsis:
This film shows the struggle of the people of Nusa Ceningan, Bali, in reclaiming their rights to their community's public land, which has been underhandedly certified as private property. This land is a major livelihood location for these people because most of them work as seaweed farmers and spend most of their time at sea, so it is a strategic location for building huts to store tools and dried seaweed and to dry seaweed. This location is also used as a sports field for children, traditional ceremonies, and a system of traditional market exchanges between the traders and the communities of Nusa Penida and Nusa Ceningan. For all those reasons the communities are fighting hard for this land.
