Synopsis:
Broken Pottery portrays a vanishing traditional lifestyle using clay in the hamlets of Kerala state, India. The state had large number of tile factories started by the British. The clay mining and pottery making was a livelihood for a caste called "Kumbharas". At the same time, the rich investors built huge tile factories creating huge chasms in paddy lands where the raw material, clay, was mined. This affected the flora and fauna of the region as well as the upper-strata water holding capacity of hamlets. The impact was shattering. The threatened sustainability of the green ecosystem and the water on one side and the vanishing art of Kumbharas and the tile industry on the other side. The issue created panic among a tribe and the community was scattered and vanished whereas the tile factories became dilapidated due to lack of raw material. But can we allow the clay to be burnt?
