FIRE IN THE BELLY| 30mins
Director: Dr Francis Xavier | Producer: Caritas India
Focus Years: 2010 | Country: India
Synopsis:
"Fire in the Belly" is a film on the psychosocial autopsy of rampant farmer suicides in an agricultural district of Kerala and the joint effort by NGOs to create public awareness and provide solace to families. The crumbling farming situations, which once provided greener pastures for a larger population, led many to commit suicides. The number of farmers committing suicide has risen alarmingly in the region. This short documentary shows the interventions and an overall picture of the agricultural zone and sociocultural probabilities. The suicide rates came down sharply due to the new and unique interventions we did. The whole process was supported by Caritas India as the Save Farmers Campaign.
