Synopsis:
Through interviews with some of the earliest scuba divers in Florida (including Stan Waterman, Douglas Seifert, Jim Abernethy and others) combined with stunning shark footage and archival/historical photographs, we capture the concept that there are a handful of expert witnesses alive today that, having dived in Florida’s waters for more than 30 or 40 years, can attest to a time when there were far more sharks and that what we see now when we dive is merely remnant populations after years of commercial exploitation – an apex predator baseline that has truly shifted. These divers were the first ‘sentinels of the sea’ and now call on a new generation of divers to log and track their shark sightings to begin to create an important ‘citizen science’ baseline.
