Director: Anirbhan Duttagupta | Producer: Surabhi Foundation Of Research and Cultural Exchange
Focus Years: 2011 | Country: India
Synopsis:
The Ganges is neither the longest river on Earth nor the most awe-inspiring, but through its 2500 km journey from its source to the sea it flows through the physical and spiritual heart of India. Though most rivers in India are holy, the Ganga is the holiest of them all. Stories, beliefs and myths merge together within its water so that every aspect, every part has a spiritual connect with its people.
Thanks to rapid industrialization and population expansion, this river is facing increased pressure from water extraction and pollution. The unthinkable, a dry Ganga, is a distinct possibility within our lifetime. The greatest tragedy is the fact that we are not taking responsibility towards conserving this lifeline from destruction. This film explores causes, effects and possible solutions for the problem of pollution of the Ganga.
