Portraits from Cameroon| 17mins
Director: Jan Nimmo | Producer: Jan Nimmo
Focus Years: 2012 | Country: United Kingdom
Synopsis:
This collection of banana workers' testimonies filmed in the Fako region of Cameroon by Scottish artist Jan Nimmo. These portraits give the viewer an intimate insight into what daily life is like for workers who produce bananas for the European market. Workers show us where they live and describe their working routine, how much they earn and how they struggle to sustain their families. They explain how often they had to handle, or are exposed to, potentially dangerous chemicals. And unlike Latin American plantations, many women work in the field and not just in the pack houses.
