Engaged in the "world gene race", the giants of biotech - mainly American - head to emerging countries and examine Nature's bounty from top to bottom, with the intent to apply for commercial patents. But their cunning globalization strategy is met with public outrage and governmental and military resistance. India, Brazil, and Mexico are the countries most affected. These countries find themselves prohibited to export their own resources to America without paying a percentage to the patent holder of those resources. A film on the paradox of patents that poses the question: Is life itself patentable?
