Synopsis:
Frits van Troon (b.1936) is Suriname's foremost expert on trees and plants. As a member of the Saramaccan community he grew up in the village of Kadju along the upper course of the Suriname River. The film follows Frits to his parents' birthplace along the Gran Rio river. It is a portrait of a fascinating man who has put his life in the service of nature and the culture of his people.
