MAHASNANA - The Great Bath| 16mins
Director: Sudheer Gupta | Producer: Sarjana Films
Focus Years: 2013 | Country: India
Synopsis:
A visual tone documentary film without words, just a thought on the occasion of the Mahakumbha fair of Prayag, Allahabad in 2013.
To the eternally flowing rivers Ganga & Yamuna. If they had a mind of their own, the Mahakumbha fair every 12 years must be a very painful experience, recording an ever-increasing presence of babas and common people, coming to live in this largest man-made city of tents for a month and half, bathing paranoid in the confluence of the rivers, washing away their sins, reveling in the spiritual atmosphere… this must be full madness, a totally mindless ritual!
The water of these rivers is not fit for drinking or bathing any more. Too many cities on their course spill their waste into them, agricultural run-offs from these fertile plains add huge amount of pesticides, and the industrial effluents flow-in untreated. The rivers need to taken care of before they can bless the religious majorities flocking to them.
We need to stop, think, and act immediately.
