Synopsis:
The film describes the challenges faced by the villagers in the hill areas of Manipur, as they are compelled to choose between safeguarding their environment and the struggle for survival. It mainly centres on the hill district of Ukhrul, located in the northeastern state of Manipur, India. Large scale destruction of forestland caused by jhum cultivation leaves the land cover with ashes resembling a desolate snow wonder. Rampant timber logging and make shift highway sawmills have become increasingly common place in the areas of Ukhrul and other hill districts. Even though the Supreme Court directive calls for a working plan approved by the central and state government for timber logging, woodlands are disappearing at an alarming rate. While on the other hand the villages are compelled to continue jhum culture for their own survival, as there are no alternatives. A positive and promising change is taking place in the Khambi Village in Ukhrul. Khambi Village have managed their forests and declared them closed to all sorts of activities. This has led to regeneration of water sources and revival of the forest, which was cleared for "Jhum" cultivation. The film ends on a positive note providing solutions to the problems of deforestation, which also directly relates to the global issues of climate change and global warming.
