Synopsis:
Sonam Dorje runs a sanctuary for abandoned donkeys on the outskirts of Leh in Ladakh, India. The sanctuary survives almost solely on donations as well as on this remarkable character's good will. Many of the donkeys have been either hit by cars or bitten by stray dogs and often require expensive treatment. Sonam never turns an animal in need away, and it is clear that they appreciate his enormous dedication. In India animals are generally loved but are often beasts of burden and it is relatively rare for such a selfless enterprise to exist and thrive so productively. Sonam displays a remarkable sense of dignity and humanity in this land above the tree line.
