Synopsis:
Buddhist monks from the Drepung Gomang Monastery in South India construct a Sand Mandala—a type of ritual artwork—over the course of 5 days before ritually destroying it. The construction techniques behind this intricately detailed artwork and the meaning behind its creation and destruction are shown and explained by Geshe Lharampa Lobzang Samdup, the leader of the monks as they tour North America to spread the wisdom and blessings of the Medicine Buddha Sand Mandala. Scenes of Tibetan culture are shown and the environmental and human rights impact of the Chinese occupation of Tibet are explained. A Puja ritual is performed prior to the dismantling of the Mandala and the dispersing of its sand into a nearby creek to share its healing power throughout the world.
