Synopsis:
Brazil: A New Way to Fight Homelessness.
There are over 450,000 empty properties in São Paulo. A new movement of poor squatters is reclaiming them to create housing for their families. It is a battle for people's rights to housing against the rights of real estate owners.
Those of the poor in São Paulo who are lucky enough to have homes live in cramped conditions, miles away from all amenities and their working place. Therefore, as there are plenty of empty and abandoned buildings in the center of town, hundreds of families have taken over the apartments, settled down and founded small communities.
However, this action has made them clash with the law and the police. But as they believe: "The fight will not be done for you. It will be done by you".
