Director: Carlos Reis | Producer: Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas, Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco, Portugal
Focus Years: 2012 | Country: Portugal
Synopsis:
The Tapada da Tojeira Farm, located near Vila Velha de Rodão in the Castelo Branco region, Portugal, has both a large olive grove and a cork oak grove. Olives have been ground using a traditional mechanical system since 1900 using truncated-conical shaped granite millstones and hydraulic presses. Olives are grown according to the organic farming requirements i.e. without using any pesticides or any other chemical products.
The present documentary “Olive oil flavoured with tradition” shows us an ancient method of olive oil extraction. We can also meet Luís Coutinho, an agribusiness entrepreneur, who is simultaneously a passionate organic farmer. Nature, with its various elements in harmony, is Coutinho’s matrix for his sustainable production conception. In his adventure, he would like to encourage us, as consumers, to participate in a sustainable culture. It is as simple as asking where what we eat comes from.
