Synopsis:
The city is a place of contrasts and diversity. It has been through periods of decline and growth, acting like an ecological entity that has become a parasite on the rest of the world. Its communities have become absorbed in consumerism, draining the worlds resources. Its public spaces have become increasingly privatised with imposed restrictions, controls and barriers that have rendered communities both physically and psychologically isolated from each other and the rest of the world. Yet they remain living and breathing places of wonder and excitement with glimpses of nature that remind us of our connection to it.
Limestone pavement with its parallels of diversity of habitat, species and even structure offers a view of an environment that survives often against the odds without barriers and controls but through its daily interactions and shared space. Within the bounds of its limited resources it somehow not only survives, but thrives.
Taking a creative and psychological approach to the genre of wildlife film making this film serves to remind us of a less familiar look at our cities. It encourages us to look beyond our immediate environments to a world few people have seen or considered. By understanding the less familiar, exploring nature as a part of and not apart from us and by questioning the progress we take for granted, this film seeks to lift our heads from the path we walk everyday to chase a different pavement and alternative ways of living.
