Since 1999, Indigenous Peoples' Alliance Archipelago struggles for the recognition and protection of the rights of indigenous people by the Republic of Indonesia. One of the efforts made in improving the relationship between states and the indigenous people was the implementation of the principle of Free Prior and Inform Consent (FPIC) currently one of the universal prerequisites for development.
