Synopsis:
The transhumanist shepherds of northeastern Italy still practice pastoral nomadism as a system of production. These nomads exploit only the natural resources found growing on the ground year-round, moving through private fields, state lands, and high mountain pastures in the summer months. Shepherds walk with their sheep through traffic jams, industrial areas, and along riverbanks, always searching for grass which is most available in marginal areas away from the gaze of modern farmers. Most of these shepherds are young. They drive big pickups and present themselves as business entrepreneurs. Although they have adapted to new market economies, changing environments, and modern commodities, they are carrying forward one of the most ancient occupations in the world, putting traditions into into practice.
