Synopsis:
The Challenge chronicles the Open Architecture Challenge and the use of design and technology to help communities on three continents. Director Turk Pipkin followed Architecture for Humanity founder Cameron Sinclair and 50x15 Foundation’s Dan Shine on a journey to the Amazon, the Himalayan foothills and the slums of Nairobi. In Ecuador, the challenge was to empower the communities of the Kallari Association, a group of indigenous chocolate farmers working to build an organic chocolate factory. In Nepal, Nyaya Health was working to bring medical care to a remote area with 250,000 people and no doctors. In the Mukuru slum of Nairobi, the challenge was to build a community center to provide education, a library, community meeting and sports space and a base location for Ghetto Radio which would provide a voice for 400,000 slum residents, many of them refugees from Somalia.
