Synopsis:
Coimbatore and Tirupur are two of India's biggest business hubs now on the brink of a severe crisis. Coimbatore has engineering and manufacturing industries while Tirupur is famous for its knitwear exports. Business out of Coimbatore has halved, because of the global economic slowdown and a steep fall in domestic demand for manufactured goods. This has led to the closure of hundreds of companies and has left more than 1 lakh people jobless. Falling demand in the US and Europe has led to a 20% fall in business in Tirupur. We visit the two cities to find out the extent of impact of the crisis. How people who depend on the business here have been directly affected. We also find out how some are fighting the slowdown.
