Director: Lyon & Ingoglia | Producer: Raphael Lyon
Focus Years: 2005 | Country: United States
Synopsis:
The feature-length experimental documentary film "i" portrays the collapse of government and economy of Argentina in late 2001 through the eyes of grassroots journalists, and the Indymedia.org movement with which they are associated. Expanding on the explosive prequel "Eye of the Storm", "i" is a meditation on the relationship between media and power as manifested by the world's largest all-volunteer network of media activists, the Independent Media Center network, or "Indymedia." "i" is both an example of independent, engaged grassroots media, and a portrait of how such media functions during situations of political crisis. The result is a dramatic and poetic portrayal of the complex questions that surround identity and information in our networked age. "i" is an excellent introduction to the ideas of autonomy, horizontal social movements, networks, media and their interrelation in today’s corporate-driven global information marketplace. It offers a unique southern hemisphere perspective on these questions.
