"The River" is a reflection of a leisurely life in these places. Our companion, a resident of the village Bochary, begins to tell the history of these lands on the background of the beautiful autumn scenery of the northern river. It is composed of many individually-lived lives. Lives of the Khanty and Mansi - nameless warriors from Surikov's paintings, who rebelled against conqueror Ermak. Lives of an ancient clan of Korepanov's merchants, whose descendants still continues the work of their ancestors. Lives of the oldest residents of the village Kondinskoye and from their stories about their youth, about the complicated lives of northern Mansi and about simple entertainments of villagers. Lives of very young pupils, filled with some original wisdom of their people from the birth. Their history runs its course, and a new generation of Mansi forced to solve modern problems, trying to preserve the primordial open and honest attitude these people to toward the world. The river Konda flows as the river of time, reflecting the smooth and unhurried life of these unique places, gradually floating away into the past.
