Synopsis:
Though facing "the dying of the light", one old man is determined that he will not go out "with a whimper". Will Watt, who was once an artist and is the only surviving member of his family, lives in a hostel for the aged dominated by an autocratic matron. He is eccentric, but sound of mind and he is sick of the bland food served at the hostel. He hankers for the flavors and textures that can be seen as metaphor for a life once passionately lived. Climbing a huge tree, he shouts his individuality to horrified onlookers. The crisis is a catalyst for the unstated love between Bob the orderly and kind Sister Jenks. Rescued by a cheerful fireman, Will shouts "Resurgam" ("I shall arise again"), and later on gets his steal with chilli sauce.
