Synopsis:
Valerie and her daughter Simone suffer a strained relationship. Neither of them are able to identify with the other's world, yet they are dependent on each other as all they have left of the family they once shared. A tragic family story reveals how Valerie and Simone have coped with their major losses. Valerie founded a charity that aids single parents of terminally ill children, and Simone is a chess guru, steering her life with the gift of chess, left to her by her father.
