Synopsis:
Students from the Chungba Primary School document their home communities with video, interviews, and photos. The students, their family members and villagers tell stories that define some of the folklore of the community. Represented are three communities near Chungba Primary School: Wühü, Shügundo, and Zhabdrong in Kham, Tibet, China. This film was created by students from Chungba, a rural township in Kham (eastern Tibet). The Chungba valley has approximately 5,000 residents, most of whom subsist on a combination of farming and yak herding. In 2002, Machik (a U.S.-based NGO) established the Ruth Walter Primary School to strengthen educational opportunities for children in the Chungba valley. This film is one of several made during the summer of 2007, by students who took part in a participatory film-making workshop that was held in conjunction with the school's summer enrichment program.
