Synopsis:
“I must inform Your Highness that Nagaibak Cossacks are excellent fighters. They showed themselves especially brilliant in the battle near Fer-Champenoise and in capture of Parisâ€. (In a letter to Count Volkonsky, governor of the Orenbourg province, Mikhail Kutuzov wrote from battlefield.) In the middle of the 19th century, new settlements emerged in the territory of Orenbourg province. These now surprise us with their resonant names, such as Paris, Fer-Champenoise, Ostrolenka, Cassel, Arsi. These names became a kind of homage to valiant Nagaibak Cossacks, who had shown themselves excellent warriors in the Russian army’s foreign campaigns.
