Synopsis:
"This Man Will Die" is an investigative documentary that tells the story of 14 people marked for death in the small town of Rio Maria, southern Pará, Amazonia, Brazil. Mary River is nearby the town of Anapu, where Sister Dorothy Stang was murdered. The documentary tells the story of a public list that circulated in the city, a list that included all the people marked for death as well as the instigators. The conflict over land ownership is illegal in Amazonia, where large landowners evict tenants to take their land and instead use it for cattle grazing, thus generating large amounts of slave labor. Several appeals were made to authorities who did nothing, and the list of seven people were in fact killed. The main character is Father Ricardo, the priest was the eighth in the list marked for death, and tired of denouncing the crimes and praying on the seventh day, decided to create a very simple plan to halt the killings. And failed. Ten years after leaving town, Father Ricardo returned to Rio, and Maria - along with the remnants of the grim list - tells the story of a true cowboy, a land without law and order, where even the judge himself is threatened. The movie shows that nearby, in Rondom of Pará, another public list of people marked for death, and once again, everyone knows who will die. Four have already been executed, and everyone knows who ordered the killing. The documentary is a cry against impunity and injustice.
