Director: Witness | Producer: Witness
Focus Years: 2002 | Country: United States
Synopsis:
Over 40 million people in Burma are living under the brutal military dictatorship of Than Shwe and the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC). Many are engaged in a struggle against this oppression, and fighting for freedom and democracy. The videos in this compilation provide a kaleidoscopic picture of the scale of human rights abuses under one of the most repressive regimes in the world. WITNESS partner Burma Issues is a grassroots organization devoted to a peaceful resolution to Burma's struggle for human rights. Through its video work with marginalized communities inside Burma, it helps them voice their needs and opinions, and press for action.
