Synopsis:
"Israel's Fighter Pilots" is a portrait of three Israeli pilots. Yigal Shochat was the first former fighter pilot in Israel that openly questioned assignments of the Israeli Air Force (IAF). Shochat was a national hero in Israel. In 1970, he was shot down in his fighter plane by a SAM-2 missile above the Suez Canal. He survived, but lost a leg. Since his retirement, he decided to start working as a doctor in Palestinian territory. Alon is one of a group of 27 pilots that wrote a letter to the IAF in which they declare to be unwilling to do missions above Palestinian territory any longer. Roni is a squadron commander in the IAF. With his Cobra helicopter, he attacks Palestinian targets regularly. He kills, or gives assistance to ground troops during battle. He can not always avoid to hit civilians, or at least traumatize them with his actions. At the same time, he is a child physician. The hospital where he serves treats many Palestinian children. (Note: since Alon and Roni are both serving actively in the IAF, their last names are not to be disclosed. For the same reason they are only filmed in extreme close-up).
