Synopsis:
The Comissão Pastoral da Terra’s pioneering work began in 1975, focused on defense of right to land, water and dignity. Since then, they have supported rural communities their struggle for land reform. CPT files claims on the account of escaped slaves, triggering government investigations that have rescued roughly 31,000 workers since 1995. At the policy level, CPT advocates for national and state laws that help rural workers. In 2001, a group of dedicated journalists, educators and social scientists started Reporter Brasil to defend fundamental human rights, especially to fight slavery. Reporter Brasil traces the products the slaves are making all the way through to the businesses and consumers that buy them. They bring this information to businesses, so they can become part of the solution. Every day, Reporter Brasil successfully feeds journalists with news of slavery, environmental and social justice issues – stories that would never otherwise come to light.
