Synopsis:
In 2008, Eufrosina Cruz Mendoza, a native of the municipality of Santa Maria Quiegolani in the state of Oaxaca, demanded her right to vote and to be a candidate for the Head of Municipality of her community, a right she had been denied. Eufrosina's battle is shedding light on the more than a century old struggle of Mexican women for the right to vote. Over 50 years after women obtained the right to vote in Mexico, contemporary suffragettes continue to fight for women's rights as there is still a strong resistance against recognizing female political participation throughout the Mexican society and within its political parties.
