GOLEM| 7mins
Director: Tobias Wiesner, Patrick Mccue | Producer: Tobias Wiesner, Patrick Mccue
Focus Years: 2012 | Country: New Zealand
Synopsis:
Based on the short-story "GOLEM XIV" from the book "Imaginary Magnitude," written by Stanislaw Lem in 1973.
It is about a monologue of GOLEM addressed to mankind.
GOLEM is a man-made artificial intelligence that has reached a superior perception of humanity.
He faces his creators with a detached view of human nature and its culture. He offers a perspective that is not accessible to simple human beings.
This reflection leads to some disappointing results.
It offends humans' vanity and their idea of being the "pride of creation" with randomness and forsakenness.
GOLEM combines central concepts of self-understanding in Western cultural history, such as the desire for freedom, security needs, and fear as dynamics of mental and cultural evolution.
The visualization captures these absurd dependencies of human behavior from GOLEM's point of view and concludes in self-responsibility.
