Synopsis:
When Matthew Paul Miller was a teenager, he listened to counter-culture groups like the Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers Band and Phish. As a musician, he was inspired by those groups as well as the late Bob Marley, whose reggae rhythms and philosophy struck a chord in the young man. In a strange way, it was Marley who helped Miller get connected with his Jewish roots. By creating a sound that is one part reggae, one part hip-hop and one part Hebrew, Miller has become one of the most unexpected music success stories in recent times.
Now recording and performing under the name Matisyahu (Hebrew for Matthew), this young artist has been developing a steady following from all kinds of fans, Jews and non-Jews alike. This short documentary is a brief glimpse into the impact of this charismatic performer, whose mission is to ignite spirituality in others with his music.
