Synopsis:
"Meeting The Kalachakra" is a documentary film, which lovingly documents a five-week creation process of one of Tibetan Buddhism's most complex and intricate sand paintings known as the Kalachakra Mandala or Wheel Of Time. The Venerable Losang Samten created this mandala over a five-week period as an offering very much in alignment with Buddha Shakyamuni's original intention to offer it with a wish to impart the blessings of inner peace. Traditionally this sacred art is reserved for monastic ritual and prayer; however, this film documents a much more open approach with the creation as a cultural offering combined with teachings as well as stories. Photos display the daily progress of the mandala referred to as visual scripture, and some are animated in conjunction with simple explanations of the spiritual symbolism of the artwork. An in-depth study of the Kalachakra Mandala is a lifetime undertaking. "Meeting the Kalachakra" is an attempt to allow even the complete novice to delight in the intricacy of the sand painting while also receiving the ancient messages of peace, compassion, loving kindness, balance and dedication with joyous ease.
