A JOURNEY EXTRAORDINARY| 1hr
Director: Mahadeb Shi | Producer: Rajiv Mehrotra
Focus Years: 2012 | Country: India
Synopsis:
Different people, many traditions, one country. This film celebrates the beauty of plural India through the genre of the road movie. A month-long bus journey with a set of vibrant and unique characters, the film captures their moments of joy, excitement, despair and explores their spiritual quest. The journey originates from a small town in West Bengal, barely 65 km away from Kolkata, with 150 tourists aboard two local versions of Volvo buses. The group of travelers consists of farmers, schoolteachers, shopkeepers, homemakers and elderly folks. The tour follows the entire southern coastal belt of India with stops at famous temples, palaces, cities and other places of interest.
Through the long journey, the bus literally becomes their home. It is amazing that these people, who are not so affluent or educated, otherwise tied in rigid customs and daily routine, slip into another world so comfortably. This is probably what ‘plural India’ is all about - the secular and integrated India. As the bus journeys through the night, the morning mist and sometimes through rains, the film captures the ‘celebration of life’ that is India.
