Cody, daughter of Indianapolis 500 winner Al Unser Jr. and granddaughter of Indy winner Al Unser Sr., is now a beautiful 21-year-old college student who lives life in a wheelchair. Through this documentary narrated by Glenn Close, she is opening her life so everyone can fully understand how people live with paralysis. From Unser family video of Cody as a young girl in ballet class and cheer leading to the video diary at college as she copes with all aspects of her paralysis, she has allowed our cameras to film every aspect of her daily life. We see her perspective as she travels throughout the country trying to encourage stem cell research. We visit with her world renowned doctors, the same ones who helped Christopher Reeve, at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Kennedy Krieger Institute. From the glamour runway of an Indy 500 fashion show, to falling and struggling in her dorm room shower, the program will have viewers crying and cheering for Cody. And then the worlds’ leading regenerative doctor shows us how she will walk again, and we will see Cody benefit from some of the work she has already done. After she has gone through extensive physical exams at Johns Hopkins Hospital, we will be in the room as her doctor, Doug Kerr, explains whether the pain she is feeling in her back is due to worsening Scoliosis, which was her fear, or due to the start of recovery from paralysis. And we will witness how all her physical work outs, as difficult as they can be for someone without use of her lower body, have now resulted in movement in her hips and the beginnings of feeling in her legs.
