Jan's mother has been in prison for more than a year. Jan misses her terribly and worries about her a lot. He doesn't know if she's safe there. He can't talk to her when he wants to, and when they do see each other they don't talk about the real issues. Jan talks to his friends and his grandmother about the things he struggles with. In the course of the film he musters the courage to finally have a conversation with his mother to find out how she's really doing.
