Synopsis:
In Turkey, though unnamed, there is a war going on for many decades between the west and east of the country. The clashes gradually make people more and more hostile and enraged towards each other.
Right in the middle of this shambles we meet two people: Banu and Gurbet. Banu is an actress from Istanbul. In 2006 she went on an Internet site that was running a campaign called “Choose your Sibling.†She chose Gurbet from the Kurdish province of Batman, mainly because of the meaning of her name (Gurbet means “absence from home†in Turkish).
Many from her family and circle of friends thought it was a crazy idea and tried to talk her out of it. Banu would answer, “I believe in the goodwill of people, even those whom I don’t know at all.â€
The film portrays the forming of a close relationship between a Turkish woman and a Kurdish girl. It is a friendship that defies distance and the estrangement and hostility both have suffered. The film illustrates that despite having different life styles and different languages, these two women have managed to create a bond for life.
