Synopsis:
Thirteen-year-old William loves birds nests. So much so that he will go to any length to collect them, until one adventure clips his wings forever.
DRIVING WILLIAM charts the inspirational story of how William flies again with the help of his Guardian Angel.
Waking up in Cape Townʼs Red Cross Childrenʼs Hospital after being electrocuted at the top of an electricity pylon in search of a birdʼs nest, William finds that both his arms have been amputated.
Adapting to a life without arms is difficult and, in an inspired moment, art therapist Sascha Archer puts a pen in her mouth and teaches William to express himself, and that he is not bound by the loss of his limbs. By using his mouth and feet, William discovers his creative self, and begins to redefine his life forever.
Swimming like a dolphin, working towards his first prosthesis, facing new challenges at home in rural South Africa and dreaming of driving his own car, William goes from strength to strength as his confidence grows, and the world outside the burns unit is filled with opportunities. With the support of his closest friends we observe the struggles, accomplishments and joys of his courage and ongoing recovery.
DRIVING WILLIAM is a testament of one brave boyʼs will to triumph over tragedy. Williamʼs miraculous rehabilitation and recovery is sure to inspire and motivate people everywhere.
